It's time to sign up for faith formation classes/groups. Learning about our faith is a great joy in life, and we have tons of opportunities this year for every age- kids and adults. Check them out:
The commissioning of the Eucharistic Ministers of the diocese by Bishop Slattery will take place on Saturday, September 18. Eucharistic Ministers are invited at 9:00 a.m. to the Doubletree Hotel downtown for an introduction to the new translation of the Missal. This will last until 11:30 a.m. and will be followed by Mass at the Cathedral at 12:00 noon.
Fr. Kastl invites all boys and girls 5th grade and above who are currently or who wish to be altar servers for the Church of St. Mary to attend an altar server training session on Sunday, August 29th. There will be two tracks: 1. For those who are currently serving as altar servers a refresher course from 9:15-10:15AM in the main Church to learn about some of the changes we are making to in how to serve at the Church of St. Mary. 2. For those who wish to serve at Mass for the first time, we invite you to join us from 11:45AM-1:15PM in the main Church. The ministry of server is a very important one in the life of our community, so we pray you consider joining into this wonderful ministry of time and talent!
The September newsletter mailed to your homes will feature an article on our Newcomers Committee. It's a great piece showing all the hard work and fun that goes into welcoming new parishioners to our parish. I'm so grateful we have people who know the great importance of this ministry. Christ calls us to be loving and hospitable, and people should find that immediately when they visit a parish.
The Newcomers Committee just held a BBQ at the rectory this past weekend, and it was a great time. Check out this poster with photos of the event and look forward to the article on these awesome stewards in our parish.
A note from Fr. Kastl... I just received word from Dr. Tim Gray, President of the Augustine Institute that he has decided to lead another pilgrimage to the Holy Land in May of 2011. I along with one other priest will be the chaplains for this great Bible Adventure and I invite those who are interested in going to conta...ct me through “messages”. More info on dates, prices etc to come in the next week! Space will be limited!
Each year parishioners and school families come up with fun parties they can host, then the places at the parties are sold at the auction. For example, there is a ladies retreat to the lake. The party hosts set the number of attendees and the cost of the event; for the retreat, usually 12 women can attend. People sign up at the auction, and, voila!, Saint Mary raises some funds and fellowship ensues!
