Monsignor Dorney Named the New Vicar General

Bishop Edward Slattery named Monsignor Dennis C. Dorney the Vicar General for the Diocese of Tulsa yesterday, July 8. Monsignor will continue to be the pastor for the Church and School of Saint Mary while simultaneously holding new appointment.

Monsignor has been the Vicar General four times before, twice for several years at a time and twice for a short time while the Bishop was out of town.

“I am glad to have the ability to help the Bishop and the Diocese in any way that I can,” says Monsignor.

Monsignor Patrick Gaalaas, Pastor of Saint Bernard’s Parish in South Tulsa, stepped down from the position hoping to focus more on his parish that at this time does not have an associate pastor.

Bishop Slattery thanked Gaalaas for his six years of service saying, “He has served the Diocese of Tulsa well.”

According to Church law, the role of Vicar General is second in command behind the Bishop and is given to a priest at least 30 years of age and “recommended by sound doctrine, integrity, prudence and experience."
