ALERT: Food Pantry is Low

Saint Mary Parishioners, help us help others by filling up the food barrels for our Food Pantry. Our supply is especially low right now, and we've not been able to give people all that they need when they come by for assistance. If you can help, please bring items to the yellow barrels in the hallway outside the sanctuary or outside the chapel. You can also bring items to the Parish Annex. If you have questions, please call Hilary at the Annex, 918-749-2561.

The usual items the Food Pantry keeps and distributes each week are:

Peanut butter
Jelly
Spagetti
Spagetti sauce
canned tuna
canned chicken breast
canned veggies
canned pork-n-beans
cereal
fruit cans
pancake mixes
cake mixes
crackers
soup

  1. Would you also publish a list of things that can not be bought with food stamps, ie- feminine hygiene items, diapers, cleaning supplies. Not sure what is and isn't included but know that some basics don't make the list of qualified items.

  2. what ever happen to the can soup drive on Super Bowl Sunday? also, maybe the schools kids could each bring one can. if the whole class participates then maybe they could get extra 15 mins. of recess or some other type of reward. it could be alot of fun..have them bring their favorite soup so them can learn to give of their first fruits...not get rid of the stuff they don't like!

    2. I'm not sure what happened with the Super Bowl Sunday soup can drive. I'll mention it to Hilary Elias, our Director of Justice and Peace. It's great that you think involving the students more is a good idea- the school is actually doing something for the food drive coming up- "peanut butter for pom poms." They will bring peanut butter in for an upcoming assembly.

  3. I hae a friend on food stamps due to a "deadbeat" dad and besides cleaning supplies, toilet tissue and napkins are not elgible for purchase...To make it worse, she just lost her job and lives in Nevada.Enough said about her position? I believe cosmetics are not included and when she goes on interviews likes to look her best....Hunger in America is a sad situation...UNBELIEVABLE!

  4. I believe that Saint Mary's should be proud of how one parish contributes to the disadvantaged. Mother Teresa has said the ONLY thing we can take to Heaven is what we DO for and TO the poor. Contrast that with Mr.$57,000 a day from investments in five countries..He said," I don't care for the poor." He will prove it by cutting so many programs which benefit the poor,elderly,etc...BRAVO to Saint Mary's..>I am PROUD to be part of this parish...
