St. Mary 8th Graders Attend Naturalization Ceremony

St. Mary 8th graders pictured with U.S. Magistrate Judge Kimberly E. West.

On Friday, January 18, the School of Saint Mary 8th graders went on a field trip to the Muskogee Courthouse to witness a naturalization ceremony. The kids visited the Grand Jury court room and got to meet a federal prosecutor. They also met two Federal Marshalls who showed them the gear they use--bullet proof vests, stun guns, tasers, shackles for prisoners. The 8th graders concluded their trip by attending a naturalization ceremony where 24 men and women were sworn in as new American citizens.

Thank you to St. Mary parent and Beth Keaney and teachers Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Lang for such a wonderful and educational trip. It was a very interesting day and a great opportunity for the kids.
