Day of Service: Project Profile--Kairos Prison Ministry

Over the next several days we will be profiling some of the projects and ministries that we will be serving at our Day of Service on April 13th. We hope to give you some insight to these projects and how we are taking the love and mission of Christ into our communities.

Today we feature:

Day of Service Project #5--Kairos Prison Ministry

What is the Kairos Prison Ministry? Kairos is a prison ministry named after a Greek word in the new Testament which means "a favorable or decisive point in time." It is referred to it as "God's special time." Kairos focues on common Christian-beliefs for the purpose of Christianizing prisons. You can read more about the Kairos Prison Ministry HERE.

Kairos minister working with prisoners.
What will I be doing if I volunteer for this project? Adults can write letters and children can color pictures for those incarcerated. We will also be making a prayer chain where we will write a prayer on a piece of paper and make it into a long paper chain. In addition, we will be making placemats for the Kairos Prison Ministry retreat that will be held at the Cimarron Correctional Facility in Cushing. These placemats will be used by the prisoners at each of their meals and will be a reminder of Christ's love for them.

Why did we choose the Kairos Prison Ministry for the Day of Service? In this day and age it is hard to minister to the incarcerated and many people do not feel comfortable doing it. However, Jesus specifically called us to serve those in prison. This project will allow us to show our support to the incarcerated and spread Christ's message of love and forgiveness.

Who can volunteer for this project? ANYONE! This project has no age limit or special talents needed. It is the perfect project for a family with young children who want to get involved and while utilizing our Day of Service child care, but does not want to leave the church campus so they can stay close to their children. This project is truly for anyone, any age, any ability!

We hope you will sincerely consider signing up to volunteer with this service project. If you have any further questions about the Kairos Prison Ministry, click here to email Paul Seikel.
